FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Supporting and Advocating for Gifted Education is pleased to announce the 2017 recipient of the SAGE Senior Scholarship for $1,000. SAGE is a support group in Grapevine-Colleyville that collaborates with parents and educators to ensure that gifted children in our community reach their fullest potential.

Lauren Edwards of Colleyville, class of 2017 of Grapevine High School, will receive $1,000 from SAGE as she enrolls in the University of Texas at Austin to study engineering and run cross country.

Lauren attended Glenhope Elementary School and Cross Timbers Middle School in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. She is an accomplished cross country runner, earning four varsity letters and numerous medals at district, regional, and state tournaments. She was captain of the team for two years, a two-time All-State Athlete, a top 10 finisher at the UIL state meet in 2015 and 2016, and twice received the G Award in cross country. Lauren was president of the National Honor Society, and served as an officer in Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. She competed at the state level of Future Problem Solving for 4 years, competed in Calculus Bowl and played classical piano for 13 years. She volunteered at Animal Advocates of North Texas, Leo Club, Colleyville Public Library, White’s Chapel United Methodist Church, and local elementary schools. She worked as a counselor-in-training at Camp Thurman and as a piano accompanist at Living Word Lutheran Church.

Lauren is the daughter of Brian and Tracy Edwards of Colleyville.
