Additional questions:
We received 2 questions we weren’t able to get to at the end of our event. We sent them to the candidates and asked for a response by noon, April 20.
The questions were:
1.Is GCISD looking to work toward identifying other areas of giftedness? Currently identification is only supportive of 3 or 4 areas when there are at least 7 areas of giftedness defined.
2. Education law (including privacy and finance law) is very complex. Can you talk about your experience navigating GT education law?
Response from Tim Raine to the above questions:
1. Since I’m not currently on the Board, I’m not in a position to answer this question at this time. If you are concerned in particular about a specific area (there are 5, as I understand) as identified by the National Association of Gifted Children, I’d be happy to determine what is happening, if elected. If you’re referring to “twice exceptional” kids, I’d have to check on that too…once elected.
2. My experience and exposure with it was in my prior service. I’m positive there have been substantive changes since that time. Clearly, I would need to bring myself up to speed in consultation with appropriate staff and our district’s legal counsel…if elected.
SAGE did not receive responses from the other candidates.
