We asked SAGE members to nominate an educator who’s going above and beyond for gifted students. Our SAGE GT Educator of the Month is Travis Sampson, music teacher at Bear Creek Elementary and founder of the GCISD District String Orchestra. The person who nominated him wrote:

“Mr. Sampson’s GCISD District Orchestra, now in its 5th year, is comprised of at least a third GT students and makes a huge impact on our GT students.”

“With rehearsals two times a week, two concerts a year — plus a competition at NRH2O where these students compete with other districts — our children are witnessing first-hand the huge ripple that one person can make. Mr. Sampson inspires them, challenges them, and also makes them laugh. He is always positive with students and with parents.”

“He is extremely deserving of recognition — and would be the first to thank others who help, but without him, GCISD would not have an orchestra program. Last year, the Intermediate Orchestra brought home a major trophy at the NRH20 Music Festival. I hope SAGE will recognize Mr. Sampson’s commitment and dedication to students and, the joy of learning an instrument and playing music together.”
