4ª. mini conferencia anual de SAGE, SENDEROS DE SUPERDOTADOS: Navegando con su niño superdotado desde Kindergarten hasta la universidad, se llevará a cabo el 14 de noviembre, empezando a las 6 pm hasta las 8:30 pm. Aprenda sobre opciones y oportunidades durante la travesía de su niño superdotado a través de la escuela. El orador principal será el Dr. Todd Kettler de la Universidad de Baylor. Habrá sesiones para padres de familia, educadores y estudiantes de 5º a 12º grado. Developing Talent from Childhood into Early Adulthood
Dr. Todd Kettler, Baylor University
Perhaps one of the greatest anxieties of parenting children with exceptional abilities is wondering whether you are doing what you should be doing to foster the development of their potential. Fortunately, the process of talent development has been studied and modeled to help parents, educators, and researchers better understand the cognitive and psycho-social nuances that interact with opportunity and environment. This presentation will include an overview of the science of developing exceptional talent as well as practical recommendations for parents.
Todd Kettler, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Educational Psychology in the School of Education at Baylor University. He serves as the coordinator of gifted and talented education programs in the School of Education including gifted and talented teacher preparation as well as masters and doctoral degrees with gifted education specialization. He is the chair of the Texas Commissioner of Education’s Advisory Council for Gifted Education in Texas. He has been recognized as the Advocate of the Year by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented, and his book Modern Curriculum for Gifted and Advanced Academic Learners won the Legacy Award for the Best Scholarly Book in Gifted Education in 2016. He has six kids, four dogs, and a book he still regrets stealing from Mrs. Booth, his second-grade teacher.

GCISD’s Top Scholars & Gifted Students
Panelists will offer insights on balancing life and studies, navigating high school, and choosing college and career. Younger students benefit greatly from hearing directly from their older classmates. You’ll leave this session with practical ideas and you’ll be inspired by GCISD’s scholars.
Conversations for College and Career
Julie Leslie, GCISD Director of Advanced Academics
Mrs. Leslie began these conversations with her step-son Trevor when he was in middle school. In this whirlwind session, Mrs. Leslie will share how they examined his personality, passions, and strengths. All of this helped Trevor decide to which colleges he would apply and shaped his final decision to attend a small liberal arts in Michigan (where he’s sometimes flourishing, sometimes struggling, always growing, and [mostly] happy – at least for now!).
Guiding your Gifted Adolescent

Our keynote speaker is the chair of the Texas Commissioner of Education’s Advisory Council for Gifted Education in Texas. Dr. Kettler will share information about how Texas House Bill 3 affects gifted education in Texas. Attend this session to be informed about laws that directly affect your students.
